Low lights wouldn't really show on dark brown hair... u mean "highlights"? That would be an extra step- which there are kits for at any drugstore. I would recommend a Professional. There's no telling how this all could come out when dying on your own.

You should call the salon where you had it done and speak with the owner...

If they are a reputable salon they would gladly tweak it out for you for free.

If your not comfortable with them anymore show-up tell them why you are unhappy and calmly but firmly ask for a refund.

If you touch it yourself you forfeit any later claims against the salon.

I don't suggest coloring it yourself that's when things tend to go bad fast, but it's your head...

Also make sure you are using a professional color safe shampoo or the fadage (even after another color) could continue.

In my opinion I have always had much, much better and longer lasting results dyeing my hair at home, verses getting it done in a salon. I always got the color I wanted, it lasted a lot longer and my hair looked better. From my experience, Loreal and Clairol have worked great. Just get a box of medium brown or dark brown, do it yourself and you'll be all set.

The only way to make it brown again without dye would be to put a rinse on it, however they only "cover" and only last for a couple of days at best. The only way you can cover up the red is to use a dye. When using a permanent hair color, the first step it does is lift the hair color then it deposits the hair color, that is why you tend to look brassy or orange when the sun has bleached up the deposited color. They do wash out, which is a good thing when experimenting with color. Always go a little lighter than you think you want, the colors tend to go darker.

Use a gold base brown, nothing ashen. You may want to fill it first. Take a golden colour that is lighter than the colour you want. Mix with water, not peroxide. apply to hair. I would start off by not shopping at Wal-Mart, try a beauty supply store. Because you have been dying your hair blonde, your hair is porous and is going to soak up more of the base color. By shopping at a beauty supply store you can see what base color is in the shade. For example, golden brown would have a yellow or orange base. Ash brown would have a blue green base. trust me on this, my mom has been a hair stylist for many years.

so first bleach the dark hair, and then chose the original color you wanted (the dirty blonde)

and then you can dye it.

after you bleach it, i'd wait a day or two before dying it though.

the color will damage it no matter what, but spreading it out over a day or so might minimalize the damage.

You can get products that actually take the dye out of your hair. However, why don't you bleach it for a bit?

You can shampoo your hair with dawn dish liquid...it will lightin it up a little....but go to your local sally beauty supply store and ask for zap color remover then redie your hair the brown u want.

use head and sholders!!!!! it sounds crazy but trust me. it's a huge thing in the salon im apprenticing in. its actually not good for dandruff, it just cakes it onto your scalp. so go out and buy some head and sholders and when your in the shower take a bunch and put it all over your hair and leave it for a few min then was it out . . . its so harsh it'll lift your hair colour (it doesnt hurt your hair though just the colour)

your hair is orange, because you need to process it one more time to get the color of blonde you want. color it one more time, and i'm sure it will get to the color you want it to be.

There is nothing you can really do about it. Talk to your stylist. He or she might suggest to dye your hair to your natural color. Or try those semi permanent dyes you can find in stores. It usually stays on for a couple of months

Your never suppose to dye it blonde w/out putting peroxide.

By all means, the only way to get it out is to redye it.

You need to dye it a dark brown that way all the hair gets and you get the same color all around.

if you go light, then the blonder part will take more and you will be two toned!!!

if its permanent, you cant wash it out. go to a salon and ask the stylist for OTHER alternatives to lighten your hair. you dont always have to use bleach, remember that! ask the chick what your options are: should you go back to brown and forget the blonde because its too damaging, OR do you have the option of using the other lightening techniques that are FAR less damaging on your hair? Maybe you could get some highlights to make the color look more defined, if you think your hair is in the right condition to get bleached again lol..

- Always condition your hair just so that it remains healthy so that you can actually go through with the hairstyle you want.

- There are non-permanent colours at drug stores at well that lighten hair. They don't lighten really great. But they do add some nice shine and multi-dimension. Just don't bleach or permanent dye your hair at home because it kills your hair and it's such a waste of time because of the chemicals already in your hair.

- Save up money to go to a pro.

- Look around at hair schools in your area. Usually they're cheaper than most salons and just as good because they're graduating and need people to practice and work on.

ok try washing yor hair with washing up liquid (fairy liquid etc) ... it shud strip some of the colour out ....

Vinegar will lighten your hair, the longer you leave it on the lighter it will get. I don't know if will get it as light as you want. You will need to wash your hair several times to lessen the vinegar odor.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go and buy a blonde at home color kit from walmart.. It wont make your hair blonde at all, because color won't make previously colored hair lighter!! Second, be patient, if you try and do this quickly without pro help you will either fry your hair or have orange hair. Ok that said this is what you will need suave clarifying shampoo, a deep conditioner (sunsilk has a good one its in the pink tub, and an at home highlight kit. 1st wash your hair with the clarifying shampoo and leave it on your hair for a half hour. Do this everyday until you lighten your hair a shade or two. Everytime after you shampoo use the deep conditioner, it will keep you hair healthy since the shampoo strips alot of oils. Finally when you have puled a bit of the color out, use the home highlighting kit to put some nice highlights in your hair, just pull hair through every hole in the cap and you should have highlights all over. Highlight your hair once a month until you have a good amount of blonde then use a home color kit to get it to the exact blonde shade you want. You could also bleach out all your hair at once and then put a blonde on top of it, but it will probably fry your hair to the point that it breaks off. If you do it the highlight way you won't kill your hair and it will look pretty nice while you are getting it to the color that you want.

most of the advice on here that people have left is aweful..your hair will end up spotty and dry. A lighter hair dye will not dye your hair lighter. you have to use bleach, and then redye...which is going to dry your hair out. if you don't want to totally ruin your hair, get some high lites on the top and it will look dramatically lighter.

add some blond highlights. and you can keep adding more every other month till all your hair is blond. if you bleach it all at once, your hair will be like straw and very unhealthy ( unless your hair is really short, you can't pull it off). loreal excellence sells a highlighting kit for already dyed hair. it is in a light pink box. that will be more gentle cause your hair is already damaged. also get a good shampoo and conditioner.

with shampoo for a week or so

make sure your hair gets healthier

if your roots are grown out dying your hair a lighter color

would not be a good idea

Don't do it! Im a hairdresser and its hard enough for us to do let alone someone who isnt trained in colouring, n also using a shop bought colour rather then a pro colour. I cant believe a hairdresser actually advised you to do it yourself.

What i would advise you to do is to use head and shoulders because it strips colour out of the hair but make sure you condition it well. This is the same advice that i would give to someone who came in the salon.

The other thing i wpould advise is to scrape up the money and have high lights on the top this will make you feel a lot lighter but dnt do it yaself.

The problem with putting brown on blonde is that you always run the risk of whatever was blonde turning green. Make sure whatever shade you pick you make it is a WARM color.

The lighter pieces will probably be a different shade depending on how dark you go. If you go dark enough and pick the right shade, it could just look like your hair is very dimensional and healthy because no one's hair is just one solid color!

my hair is naturally dark brown. this summer i decided to use sun-in to get a lighter color for the beaches. however, i have very dark eyes and my hair looks terrible. my mother says that there's dying and bleaching, and sun-in is bleaching. so i can't reverse bleaching. but i'd really like to get my hair back to normal. is there any way to dye my hair back? or could i dye it REALLY dark and just progressively wash it out?

Sun-In is the devil. It sort of 'bleaches', but also ruins your hair. Most hairstylists will not touch your hair once you've used it.. it can cause bad breakage and horrible damage if you dye over it.

If you really really want to do something about your hair, be very careful!!!!!! Do this, dye it first with a semi-permanent brownish ash tone color. That will tone down the blonde in it a bit and make sure that the color you dye it later stays in longer. Then, dye it with a neutral or ash tone permanent brown color. It may still wash out tho. ... will it go a funny colour ?? i have red streaks through my hair which faded so my hairdresser put in a plum colour to lift the red but im really fed up wit the red tint my hair now has so if i dyed it brown myself wat way would it turn out ?? i had a minor disaster with hair dye last year (it ended up jet black instead of brown) so thats why im weary.

Don't pick a brown that has golden tones in it (the ones with a G after the number) or red tones or you'll still have the red with the brown - go with a neutral brown (the ones with just a number and no letter) I agree with the answers that say choose a lighter brown - I always choose a much lighter brown than I want because browns do tend to turn out much darker than the box indicates.

Do a strand test first - cut a small piece from the ends of your hair, and try to find a reddish piece if you can, so you can see how the red will take the color. I tape the sample of my hair at the top so it stays together nicely while I check it. I generally always leave the dye on my hair much less than the time on the box, the strand test will allow you see what amount of time gives you the color you want...

If you have a lot of red and want to cut down on the red tones, you could go with an ash toned brown, ash cuts red. But be careful! Ash also tends to look green if not done right!

If the strand test shows me that the neutral brown isn't cutting the red enough, I'd probably dye it twice - once with a light ash color to cut the red, and then with a neutral light brown to get the color I want. But if my strand test turned out nicely and a neutral brown did enough to cut the red, I'd just dye it once.

Also, damaged hair absorbs more dye than healthy hair - and much quicker, so I always do my roots for a several minutes longer than my ends for that reason, or else my ends turn out a shade darker than the top of my head. (I have long hair, if your hair is short, your ends are probably just as porous as your roots so ignore this tip)

It was too drastic for me at first, so I went back after 3 days and just had her do some tricks and bring back some more blonde- .Only issue is some of the pieces were reddish copper around my face vs. brownish. yes an ash based toner would help however you need to apply carefully and really watch it. if the toner gets onto the blonder areas you could turn green or gray or just a muddy color..go back to your stylist and have her fix it...she should not charge you and with her already knowing what she has put into your hair would be the safes route..this would not be something i would try at home or you'll have an even bigger mess.

I wouldn't use a toner myself..toners do only that..tone. they fade out quick.. it sounds like you need a little more punch in order to get it to stay. Have her foil in a light brown color with half ash half neutral base..she will need to use 2 diff colors and mix them together. apply for 20 min. and check..she needs to rinse and dry one spot to check the color.. if not it..re apply to that section and leave another 5 minutes..keep checking diff. sections..

I have fair/ beige (as some sites have called it) skin and quite a large amount of freckles on my face; Hazel green to dark dark brown eyes; and nearly black brown frickin curly hair. not tight curls but many large spirals that look like the result of a curling iron. it looks good until the second day after I wash it. It cost very little to maintain your color at the salon. I know you have heard way high prices but in all honesty it should only cost you like 30$ every month and half, 8-12 weeks. That is like 15$ a month to keep it shiny and healthy and looking good. So spend a little on yourself and enjoy you have earned it and besides we love seeing you when you come in. And what ever you do DO NOT ADD RED FILLER. Stay away from any brown that has the word "ash" in it.....Please go see a professional.

So I had posted a question about a week ago on if I should dye my hair brown-naturally I have medium blonde hair- and pretty much all the answers were "oh go brunnette it brings out your eyes even more ect.". Well I did- mind you it was a VERY impulsive decisson becuase my aunt had just died and basically whenever something bad happens I noticed I go straight for changing my hair! Problem is I HATE IT! It's medium brown and most everyone I have talked to agreed, it doesn't look terrible but I looked much much much better blonde. It's been about a week and I'm deffinately going to a salon ot get it fixed, but does anyone how soon I can and if they would be able to?

You can go as soon as you want to, as long as you go to a good salon. They can fix it! Just don't try to re-dye it yourself.

I did the same thing, except worse- I dyed my blonde hair black to try and bring out my light brown eyes- just use hair color remover. It was able to pull the black out of my hair, so it would probably work on you.

Go to Sally Hanson's beauty/salon shop %26amp; get hair stripper to remove the color, you put it on %26amp; then follow the instructions. I have blonde hair %26amp; used some old coloring I had my hair turned black it was awful. My friend(hair specialist)does coloring %26amp; she said this would be cheaper %26amp; also do the trick. Blonde's have more fun or so the saying goes. Good luck %26amp; have a good day. :0)

For most people you should not change your hair color more or less than two shades different than your natural color.

If I were you, I would try to use a semi-permant color in a chestnut (or a similar neutral base color about two shades darker than your current color) then tweek that until it looks the way you want before switching over to permanent color.

To help you get started and understand the terms on the box: If your skin has pink tones you might try an ash base color if your skin has peach tones you might try a more golden base color.

ok i had this problem. listen to me cuz you will end up ruining your hair!

you have to get a semi permanent color first and get a purple ink in the beauty shop.. use most of the dye on your roots and only a lil on your tips cuz your roots need to absorb the color. IF YOU DONT USE THE PURPLE LIQUID, I PROMISE YOUR HAIR WILL TURN ORANGE AND BRASSY.

dye makes hair darker. the only way to go darker is to bleach and dye. what i did, becuase bleaching is so damaging, was to get highlights through all my hair and then dye the highlights a medium brown, it all blended to like a darker brown shade.

Been there done that. The brown will not cover up the black. Your hair will look like a cheetah with all the color spots. What i suggest is going to a salon to get it professionally done. However, that can be very expensive. Second option is to put a light bleach in your hair to get rid of the black and then apply the brown dye. I just let my brown grow out on its own. It's pretty tacky but I was young.

If your hair IS a lighter color naturally then you need to go to a salon and have them "LIFT" off the black color and then dye your hair back to close to its natural color. [if possible]

The reality IS..... it won't look natual for some time. You may need to get mutli-tone or hi/Lo lighted hair to make it look better. A solid head of hair color will be noticiable by dull spots.

Since most black (color) have a blue base and most browns a green(ash) base, unless you go for a more red hue of brown.

If you just dye over the black it will not look well at all.

Most cases of extreme color requires a pro in a salon.

Call and ask for a Chemical (color) pro. It won't be cheap.

Here is the reality if you don't...You will chemically burn or "fry" the ends of your hair wear the color is more difficult to match with the root line (new hair) This is for Black or Platium hair its the extremes.

So my highest recommentation, go to a pro and cut off as much as you can for a fresher look and healthier hair.

We are coming into summertime and your hair grows twice as fast (FYI) if you eat well and get lots of sleep.

To take the "hit" per say now, if you want to change.

If you walked into my salon- I would determine if we could get it to a chestnut (reddish) brown (Julia Roberts/Jennifer Garner color) Trim at least 1-5 inches off the length and call it a day! As we ease the color back to yours we had lighter highlights to "intergrate" the colors by summer time it will look fab!

However, The color will need a touch up in about 4-6 weeks and I would recommend at least a total of 5 visits to get back to perfect hair color and healthy hair. Which is actually in the Fall time perfect fall colors of brown.

Black is very difficult to get out of. I've done it twice. The first time I trusted my bf friend to help me out (she said she was a professional) this ended really bad and I ended up taking work off the next day and getting most of my hair cut off.

trust me on this, my mom has been a hair stylist for many years.

so first bleach the dark hair, and then chose the original color you wanted (the dirty blonde)

and then you can dye it.

after you bleach it, i'd wait a day or two before dying it though.

the color will damage it no matter what, but spreading it out over a day or so might minimalize the damage.

Hi guys, i have naturally fair hair. It does not take well to dark colours i still end up with fair hair hehe so i gave up trying for a bit and stayed fair. Most drugstore/over the counter coloring formulas have a base tint that is greenish in color.

Darkest browns sometimes result in a blackish tint. (3 daughters and many dye jobs to relate to.) From experience, once my girls went real dark there was no going back except to the salon to get expensive color enhancements, etc.

Your stylist should be very willing to share the risks of going to a dark brown. Ask her for suggestions.

1 - Since you have dark eyebrows, I think brown hair would look good. Your friends probably just don't want you to take a chance of dying your hair a bad color.

2 - It's tricky doing that. I would definitley recommend doing that at at salon. But if you mean dye your hair brown with bleach blonde highlights, I would recommend going a little darker with the blonde

3 - Side bangs look great on oval face shapes. When you get out of the shower, comb them into the exact place you want, then dry it with a blowdryer like that. Overtime, your bangs will eventually fall that way.

4 - If you want your hair to dry wavy, don't use a brush to dry it. Try also using Herbal Essences Curl Boosting Mousse - apply it when your hair is when, scrunch it a little, and it will add a little more wave to your hair. This product will make it wavy %26amp; shiny also if you don't want to use a blowdryer. Spray it with a shine or glossing spray or add a shine spray for extra shine.
