Every time i dye my hair brown, it goes back lighter and i really think darker hair looks better for my hair. So, how can i stop it from getting lighter?
Is it true the cheaper hair dyes work better?

Thats really hard. I had the same problem. Try going with a darker brown than you have been using. It takes a few times for it to grab before it sticks, but no matter what you do it will fade. Also make sure you don't use anything that has the words "golden" or "ash". The golden will make it to brassy and the ash will make it look slightly green. You want something more chocolatey. I would say it is better to go to a proffesional but sometimes they aren't really that good. Good Luck

you can use color prolonging shampoos and conditioners, but you're going to have to dye ite about every 6 weeks if it's anything other than your natural color.

No cheaper isn't always better. Check to make sure you are leaving the color on long enough. Also if you aren't you might every other time you color pull the color all the way down you hair shaft. It is important that you don't pull the color throught everytime because you then will see the mulicolors start to appear and also if you ever want to change the color it will be hard.Look into going a level darker then the color you are using.
It is hard to tell also because I am not sure if you are talking about the hair color after you have worn it for a few weeks or so. Also see into buying a color treated shampoo

Have you tried to pick a really dark color? If you find that doesn't work, you should go to a salon. I've dyed my hair to a spicy red, I love it, but the only problem it that it won't stay long. So my next opion is to go to the salon and pay the big buck's, so that the color will last a lot longer then doing it myself
