get a combination. In the orange to brown spectrum with some reds. totally blond might look llike you have gray hair.

alot of people don't know this, but go to your local sally's beauty supply store (of your local supply store) and tell them just that, because they will tell you the correct color to use for achieve the color your prefer on your highligths. good luck

Try lemon juice. It works over time on any hair color. Just take some lemon juice and place it on the strands of hair you want to be lighter and go out in the sun. With time you should notice a difference. It worked with all of my friends who tried this, but you don't get immediate results so it looks natural.

Yes--as you've noticed, brown hair turns red in the sun, not blonde. (It happens to me, too.) If you want blonde highlights, then you have to use a product from the drug store, one that uses peroxide to lift out the color, and then a dye to color the highlights the exact shade of blonde that you want.

If you can afford to have a pro do it, then I'd advise going to a reputable beauty salon for the very best, most natural-looking highlights.
