What is the best/safest way to lighten dark brown hair?

My hair is chestnut brown in the sun, looks darker indoors. I use relaxers on my hair regularly so I want to avoid any chemical type hair dye. I was thinking henna but I don't know if it is even worth it. I don't expect it to be drastically lighter or anything but a red/auburn tint would be nice. So basically, does it sound like henna will work on my hair or are there any other organic alternatives?

You can always try camomiles :) Camomile (fresh ones) put them in water. (not the stems) use the water of the flower-water combination on your hair and sit in direct sunlight, after a few sessions your hair will become lighter and lighter, however according to your hair the result may be honey coloured hair, blonde-brown or red-brown.. try on a little area, it is the most natural thing I can advise.. better than henna. If you are thinking of henna, and If you can find any, try to find the one that is applied on skin but is not black. I use that kind and it turns out to be beautiful.. Shines red in the sun, but brown-dark red in shade. :)

Ps: don't forget to rinse your hair after the camomile thing..

There are hair dyes that you can buy in the store, that lighten without bleach... i used one by revlon that was only like $3.... and it lightened quite a bit..... but i think going to a salon is the best.....they're trained for 2,000 hrs. : )

mix cranberry juice with seltzer water and after your done shampooing and conditioning your hair, mix it evenly into your hair. put a shower cap on and leave in for 20 minutes rinse well. repeat until your desired color appears. or do the same thing with lemon juice but let it dry in the sun. good luck! :)
